WORD has decided to format independently. It has somehow established two columns (guttering?) and won't let me drop them. I want to go back to an unformatted single-column; otherwise i cant get the lines to show up fully. I keep having this kind of trouble; word seems to be dogmatic and dictatorial. any suggestions on how to get out of two columns and back to one? every new document i start shows up in two columns.

    chuckbowers,
Normally You would select Format/Column/One/OK, and that would get you back to one column. Unless....something else was done like macro, etc.

What version of Word is this?

Search your hard drive for normal.dot and delete it. Word will recreate it when you next fire it up. This may well solve your problem :)
