Hopefully you just need a new CMOS battery. I think I'd try that first.

Unless maybe you flashed the BIOS just before the problem started?

In either case, I think this is a hardware problem rather than an XP issue so moving the thread.

Clear CMOS, then restart. As soon as you get it to boot, go into the Control Panel,> System> Startup and Recovery and uncheck "automatically reboot ". Then try a System Restore to a date before the driver installation.

When you clear CMOS, you will have to change some of your BIOS settings, as they will revert to default. Make sure you unplug the machine from the wall, and the Power Supply from the motherboard before jumping the pins (or removing the battery)

i did try clearing CMOS but it still wouldn't startup.could a dodgy PSU cause it because i did some tests on it and it was throwing 17.5v out when it was supposed to be 12v

either way,i've boguht a new case, motherboard and PSU.just have to hope it isn't any of my other hardware causing it

If your PSU is throwing out 17.5v at hardware running at 12v - expect some problems :( Something may well have fried.
