    Hi Guys:
You've helped me so much in the past I'm going to ask you about another problem I've been having lately, i.e.:

Every time I do a cold start to my computer, after loading the desktop and taskbar, a yellow shield appears with an exclamation point that says "Security Updates Are Ready For Your Computer ". I installed the update mentioned about a month ago and it shows in "add or remove programs" as a hotfix and was installed on Feb 22. Anyway, I install it again, and I get the message that it was successfully installed. The next time I do a cold boot, the prompt appears again and says the same thing. Why does this keep happening. When I unclick the checkmark and tell it not to notify me again, everytime I go to Windows Update, it tells me that I have hidden important updates, so I click on it and the same file appears, namely KB967715.

Why do you suppose this keeps happening and that Windows Update doesn't recognize that it has already been installed?

    Thanks for any help.

Hi mickey918. Your problem is usually caused by Windows Update incorrectly notifying you that an update is available even though its already installed. That can happen sometimes. As long as you hide the update and tell Windows Update to not notify you again about that update you should be fine. Also please follow these steps. Click Start< My Computer. Navigate to the following directory, C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution/Download. This folder is where Windows Update downloads the system updates for your computer. Delete all the contents inside the Download folder but not the folder itself. Then empty the recycle bin. After thats done reboot the computer. Check for updates again and see if theres any change. BTW if Windows tells you that you have hid important updates that that is by design. I get that all the time and its not something I would be worried about. As long as you have hid the update and Windows doesn't notify you about it then your computer should be good to go.

Thanks Evan. I hid the update and told Microsoft not to notify me any more. It worked (although they fuss about it).
