I just upgraded from Outlook 2000 to Outlook 2003. The install of 2003 seemed to have automatically brought over all of my files and I was not required to import the old PST. My PST is located in a folder in MyDocuments instead of the default location for Outlook, but the install automatically found it and everything appeared. All of the contacts that were contained in the same PST showed up as well.

But, when I try to start a new email and press the "To" button I get the following error message "The address list could not be displayed, the contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened, it may have been moved or deleted or you do not have permissions." The inline address auto-complete does not work either. But if I go to the contacts folder and select a contact, then press "Send New Message to Contact" it works fine.

Any ideas on how repair this are welcome,

    Thanks

    Gregg

    Upgrade to MO 2003

    Gregg,

My office laptop was recently "restored ", i.e., replaced with a new machine. The IT guys and girls moved everything from one to the other, but I had to rebuild the "in line address auto complete" by entering addresses from the address book when I sent a message to say John Doe. The next time I sent a message to John Doe, the auto complete worked when I typed "Doe, John" in the "To" line.

About the "can't find contacts" problem, dunno, but I like you had my PST files stored under "My Documents" so they would be backed up during my periodic maintenance routine. The IT guy who put the finishing touches on my new machine moved them into the same directory as outlook.exe. Don't know whether that would help or what difference it would make, but you might want to give it a try.

    Rgs,

    Steve

    Missing TO list

Like you, I need to have the PST in My Documents so that it gets backed up. Everything worked in Outlook 2000 with the PST file in My Documents. In Outlook 2003, all of the contacts show up and are usable, I just have to go the contacts screen to use them. They just are not available from the TO button on the compose email screen. For single recipients I can use the contacts list and select New Message To Contact, but it is very frustrating for multiple addresses on one email; there is no way to select more names, I have to type them in manually each time.

    Got it figured out

I found the answer in another Outlook Forum.

Tools / Email Accounts/ View or Change Address Books / Remove
    Then
Tools / Email Accounts / Add Address Book / Outlook Address Book

Everything is now working as it should.

    Thanks

    Gregg
