Greetings, I hope you are all doing well ... unfortunately I am at my wit's end.

After I purchased my PC several months go I had experience very few blue screens possibly once every few days. However, starting about a week ago my computer has been giving me blue screens while loading windows, after loading windows and sometimes it teases me and let's me get by for a while and then decided to blue screen on me while I'm getting some work done or playing a game.

From what I recall I have gotten the following blue screens errors, I have about 14 recent minidumps but can't make heads or tails out of em:

    BAD_POOL_CALLER
    PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    I believe I also received: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA

I've ran memtest86+ 2.0 on both my memory modules one at a time and both of them went through 2 passes for 40 mins each with no errors.

I have not overclocked any of my components and I am sure heat is not the culprit.

My system consists of the following components:

    Asus Striker Extreme [1401 Bios]
    Intel C2D E6850 w/ Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme
    Corsair XMS2 Dominator 2GB PC6400C4D
    GeForce 8800GTX
    WD RaptorX 150GB
    2x WD 250GB Caviar SE [RAID-0]
    Plextor PX-760A DVD-RW
    PCPower&Cooling Silencer 750W Quad
    7x S-Flex 120mm Fans (12v and 0.20A) each
    22" Sceptre X22WG-Gamer

I don't have a voltmeter but will be buying one today to test my powersupply but here are my PSU volt readings from the bios:

    vcore: 1.32v
    Memory: 1.88v
    1.2v HT: 1.24v
    NB: 1.24v
    SB: 1.53v
    CPU VTT: 1.24v
    DDR2 Termination: 0.96v
    3.3v: 3.28v
    5v: 4.94v
    12v: 11.64

My PSU manufacturer site stated the 12v line is the most important line for a pc and that it should be within 5% rating, which if my bios readings are correct then it should be ok.

I searched for days to come up with a solution but I can't even figure out what the problem is.

I apologize if my post is too long or is not in the correct format of posting an issue, any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    JGriff

    jgriff24 - Welcome to the Board :)

Your thread is just fine and full of relevant detail :)
That is far from normal - BSOD's in XP are not common unless the system has seriuos problems - hardware or software. If the computer is that new I would be looking to the supplier to fix this, but ....
    A caveat here ....
Ideally you should run the tester overnight, but a far more practical and informative test is to, in your case, run with one module, swap it around the slots and test by running the computer normally. Repeat for the other module. Then install both and swap between pairs of slots - I guess the modules are a matched pair.

Your voltages do not give any obvious cause for concern although I don't know what voltage your memory should be running at.

Read this thread and set up your computer for a kernel memory dump - you can debug the minidumps and post no more than three dump logs here unless asked for more. Another caveat ....

You posted your log while I was composing the reply above.

    Your dump log indicates .....
See http://www.file.net/process/nv4_mini.sys.html - it is the nVidia Miniport driver.

I suggest you reload/update your motherboard chipset drivers.

A long thread here which fits your situation - haven't read through it - leave that to you, but apparently the problem was resolved .....

    http://forums.tweakguides.com/showthread.php?t=462

More in a Google for nv4_mini.sys

Thank you for the quick response.

I would like to note that I bought all the components and built the computer myself.

I will do the memory swapping test as you've described with both modules and I have a memory module I've tried and test on a work computer and know it is free of errors which I will test with as well for a comparison. And you are correct the modules are a matched pair.

The manufacturer website states that the memory should be run at 2.1v, would ~0.2v variation make a difference?

I will do as you suggested for the kernel dumps as well and post 2 more minidumps that I am allotted.

    Thanks again sir.

    Tested 3 Modules

Tested my 3 modules and had the following findings:

    "MODULE 1 "

DIMM Slot 1 - REBOOTED (NO BLUE SCREEN or MINIDUMP created) - Occured after 5 minutes after running 3D game application and playing video file.
DIMM Slot 2 - REBOOTED (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGE_AREA BSOD) Mini021608-06.dmp - Occured after 2 minutes of being ingame

DIMM Slot 3 - STABLE FOR OVER AN HOUR (Ran 3D game applications while mp3 file and movie file were playing)
DIMM Slot 4 - DOES NOT BOOT or ARTIFACTS BOOT UP LOGO and FREEZES

    "MODULE 2 "

DIMM Slot 1 - 3D Application Froze (System Unuseable) Occured after 20 mins of running 3D game application and playing video file.
DIMM Slot 2 - When launching 3D game application I received a BSOD which DID NOT show the file name that seemed to cause the problem and computer froze: ***STOP: 0x40000080 (Ox863B4130, 0x85EEAF30, 0x85F105BC, 0x00000001) Mini021608-07.dmp

DIMM Slot 3 - STABLE FOR OVER AN HOUR (Ran 3D game applications while mp3 file and movie file were playing)
DIMM Slot 4 - DOES NOT BOOT or ARTIFACTS BOOT UP LOGO and FREEZES

    "MODULE 3 "

DIMM Slot 1 - Computer froze after 5mins of booting into windows. Tried to boot into windows froze again after running 3D game application/mp3 file/movie file.
DIMM Slot 2 - BSOD after 5 minutes of running 3D game application/movie file/mp3 file. DID NOT show the file name that seemed to cause the problem. ***STOP: 0x40000080 (Ox863CA130, 0x85EF2CD8, 0x85F205BC, 0x00000001) Mini021608-09.dmp

DIMM Slot 3 - STABLE FOR OVER AN 30 MINS (Ran 3D game applications while mp3 file and movie file were playing)
DIMM Slot 4 - BOOTED INTO WINDOWS - BSOD After 2 minutes of running 3D Application and movie file, which DID NOT show the file name that seemed to cause the problem and computer froze ***STOP 0x40000080 (Ox85E7DAD0, 0x85F08760, 0x85F2A5BC, 0x00000001) Mini021608-08.dmp

The minidump file names were not in the BSODs, just included it to know which minidump file i could refer to for which issue.

Since I found that the same 3 of the 4 DIMM Slots gave one type of problem or another on 3 different memory modules, is it safe to assume there is problem with the motherboard ? Bad memory controller perhaps ?

2 of 3 dumps show problems with NVIDIA drivers. I suggest getting the latest drivers for your hardware, and making sure you aren't overclocking.

Thanks for the response, I do have the latest drivers/firmware for all my hardware and nothing is overclocked.

I must note something strange, when I was running Bios 1303 for my motherboard several days ago, I was able to run memory "MODULE 1" by itself in Slot 1 for hours on end without a problem and the moment I tried "MODULE2" by itself I was unable to even boot into windows with crashing/blue screening.

The memory module tests in my previous post were done on the latest 1401 bios and the results are different as you can see for example I cannot run any memory module in Slot 1 without encountering an error.

By the way Memory Slot 3 is as stable as a rock, I ran 3DMark06 for over 11 hours and was playing a 3D Game while playing an mp3 file for 4 hours straight before that without a hitch.

This is so confusing. There is a beta bios 1503 out for my board, should I try getting that one ? Who knows what that will do to the board.

From the results of swapping the memory modules around and concluding that Slot 3 is the only stable one I would suspect a problem on the mobo.

Have asked for a second opinion on this.

    =(

Things have turned for the worst.

No matter what memory module I try and no matter what slot it's in, the PC boots and freezes on POST screen.

    Time to RMA this board.

    Update

I was asked to give updates on how my situation developed but I could not reply to the original thread as it is over 30 days old, Asus took their sweet time so sorry about that.

After many delays, half truths, confusion and frustration Asus finally sent me back a board over a month later. I don't know how their "10 Day Processing Time" for RMAs is handled but that is ridiculous.

I called and talked to about 8 different people over there and none of them knew what was going on with my situation. 90% of the time I would get "we will try and email you within 48 hours" and when you would call back and ask what happened to that email 72 hours later, they would say it has not been sent out yet and they don't know why.

They told me they would be tracking down a motherboard for me and said I would possibly get an upgraded model, then they would tell me I am most likely going to get an upgrade, yet they said "we tracked down a motherboard for you and will ship it out within 48 hours" over 8 days laters I finally received a board from them. It was the SAME EXACT BOARD I had sent them. It took them over a month to track down my own board to send back ?

Anyway, I setup my pc once again and the same exact problem, it freezes on POST screen regardless of the Asus RMA saying it was "tested ok "

They will be Advanced RMAing me this time within 72 hours and I hope they get it right this time.

Sorry if this was not the right place to post this and if my title is not correctly titled but this is where my original thread was.

Thanks for the update - I have merged your new thread with the old for continuity.

Asus have done you no favours :( - let us know what pans out here with a 'new' board.

Looks like I've confirmed that Asus did nothing but just ship my board back and make me back shipping for nothing.

Asus said the board "tested ok" so it must be user error? I think not, but let's find out.

I brought an extra powersupply, mainboard and memory stick to figure out if this was so.

    PSU = Corsair 750W
    Mainboard = Evga 780i
    Memory = Corsair PC2-5400 (512MB)

I tried the memory stick with the Asus board, same issue.
I tried new powersupply and again I had to same issue.

I took out the Asus board and put in the Evga board, connected all the original devices/components/plugs/wires that I had on there when I first started experiencing these problems and I not only booted fine but I am in windows now typing this reply from my desktop that has not been running for over a month due to the crappy service I've received from Asus.

This Evga board is rock solid btw, I recommend it to anyone looking into getting one.

Anyway, I really can't get my head around why Asus took so long to do nothing but waste my time and money.

I'll let you guys know what the "other board" they said they would send me does.

    Take care for now.
