Hey all, I am in the process of transitioning to Vista 64-bit. I currently have my dual-boot configuration set up, where Vista 32-bit and Vista 64-bit are both on the SAME physical hard drive. Both are Primary partitions. Often times, I will boot into x64, and get an error message saying "The disk has errors. Chkdsk will be run, press any key to abort. "

Hmm...Should I install them on SEPARATE hard drives?

Quick side question: I am still looking for Firefox 64-bit. I don't understand why they make it so hard to find it!?!? It always installs the x86 version whatever I try yo do.

Other than that, it's working well. The speeds are breathtaking! IE7 64-bit is craaaazy fast! The T7600 was totally worth upgrading to. ;)

Would be great and much appreciated to get some answers to these. :)

Thanks broni...I foiund that one, too, but there's no FF 2 in 64-bit then??? I guess I'll use FF3 beta 3 in 64-bit, as well as the stunningly fast IE7 64-bit (compared to its 32-bit counterpart). was looking for the currently released version 2 in 64-bit, but alright, this ends my search for it then. ;)

    Thanks for the find! :)

FF3 beta works perfectly fine on my XP installation.

Ok cool...It's up and running. Where do you see the most benefits? It's screaming fast, like IE7, on the 64-bit platform. :)

I still need answers as far as whether it's a bad idea to install a 32-bit, and 64-bit OS on the SAME hard drive??? I keep getting chkdsk errors. :( Only when I use the 64-bit version, though. I did a full check of the hard drive, although knowing it was fine, since my 32-bit Vista has zero problems, and sure enough, everything checks out. I used several different tools to eliminate that as a reason.

My 64-bit installation is also on my F: partition. Maybe that's the problem? It always "considers itself to be on a C: partition ", put it in painfully n00b-like sounding laments terms. lol...

I've been using Mozilla browsers, since the very beginning in early '90s, and I'm allergic to IE.
    Main reasons:
    - Mozilla has been always safer (IE got better with ver. 7)
    - Mozilla has less heart stopping errors (when I see a post with infamous "IE has encountered an error, and needs to close ", I'm ready to faint)
    - Mozilla was always ahead of IE with introducing new features (it took IE 200 years to come up with tab browsing)
    - Mozilla has countless number of cool add-ons
    ...just to name a few.
    P. S. There are only few themes, and add-ons compatible with FF3, but this will change with official launching of final build.

As for your other question, I don't know the answer. I've never used dual boot, because I prefer to install other OSes on virtual drives, which will never interfere with my main OS. On my Vista, I installed Win 98, 2K, and XP, on virtual drives, and those installation don't bother my main OS.

DONE. No more hardware issues. This may help other people. It was due to my ill-advised DUAL-BOOT configuration that it wouldn't work right. Vista and XP get along, but NOT Vista x86 and Vista x64.

I installed SP1 over it last night and fell asleep after hours of work on this. I've got my 2nd T60p running the x86, after I cloned the entire HDD, which I would advise anyone to do. I woke up to a friendly message saying it had been successfully installed. :)

I have Virtulization enabled in the BIOS, which makes Virtual PC run a TON better, as my T7600 supports it. IE7 is so fast, one website to the next looks like it just fades in and out of pages....amazing.

Do you notice it running hotter, too? At times, too hot IMHO. Thanks for the link to FF x64. Downloading it, now.

    Nice :)
As for virtual partition, I use VMWare application, since M$ Virtual PC doesn't support Vista Home Premium.

Really? I wonder why that is. It runs fine on both x86 and x64 Vista Ultimate, with, and without SP1. Why wouldn't it run on *any* version of Vista is inconceivable to me, just like it is inconceivable to me as to how FLAWLESS x64 runs. :D :D

    Thanks, Pete...
VMWare has been serving me perfectly fine, so I'm gonna stick with it, but it's good to know, if someone asks.

Which VMWare software do you use? They have half a dozen versions on the site. The Workstation one? Virtual PC works surprisingly well, too, by the way, especially w/Virtualization enabled in the BIOS, if you have the option in yours. :)

Yes, I use Workstation ver. 6
I wanted to use Virtual PC, but at that time it wasn't compatible with Vista Home Premium. Only in this thread PeteC told me, that it works with Home Premium now.

It was never a compatibility issue, but rather a licensing issue. You were supposed not to use it on Vista Home.

Motion seconded. There is a 64-bit version available. ;) If you have the option in your BIOS, enable Virtulization. Makes a big difference on my system!
