Hi Folks,

A friend of mine has a problem: she downloaded and installed the latest MS Updates ( 9 in all ) and now she is having problems in connecting to Photobucket. She even uninstalled the KB 918439 responsible for addressing the secuty loop-hole in the way ART IMAGES are handled. The situation remained unchanged.

She restored her system to Sunday (2 days prior to installing the Updates) even that did not restore the situation: she still cannot connect to Photobucket. And having a lot of her graphic images and pictures on there, she is having a harrowing experience with Red Xs all over.

Would appreciate any or whatever help in the matter.

Info about her system:
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2, Windows Firewall
Computer: eMachines T4852, 512 MB; Monitor: HP Pavilion; Printer: (none presently)
AVG Anti-Virus, Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Windows Defender
(Helps to the Helper: HijackThis, Everest Home Edition)
Slow Internet dial-up connection

Best regards - Rista

You may want to post on Photobucket Forums
I did a quick search on their forums and did not get any hits on KB 918439.
Not sure if other users of this service are having problems similar to your friend.
Does this occur when she is viewing pics from Photobucket.com or any /all Internet sites. I am assuming she is using IE6. Does she have the site in "trusted sites" ? She may want to check for any image blocking filters/rules (IE and 3rd party).

I have downloaded all of the updates and have no problems with any of my PhotoBucket accounts using IE or Opera. I think this may be a dial-up connection problem.

KB911280 Possibly breaks dial up:
http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=55151

The best procedure now would be to undo the restore and unininstall the patch thru Add/Remove. I don't have this patch and don't know if it has a Add/Remove entry. The reference implies that it does: Dennis - WhiskeyMan?

KB911280 can be uninstalled through Add/Remove programs.

I knew I saw that posted earlier but forgot what section of the board it was in. I searched everything but General Security. For some reason I let it download on my system. I haven't used dial-up in 5 years.

Hi Folks,

She uninstalled KB 911280, but that did not work.

Well, you see the Dial-Up was always working, but only not connecting to Photobucket, nor is she able to view any images (neither her own nor those from others) placed on Photobucket. Imageshack and Villagephotos images load fine, but she checked further with images on Ebay she could not view very many - certainly not those hosted on channeladvisor.com.

Any further ideas?

Regards - Rista

I have seen this issue before with ImageShack. The person that had the problem found out he was banned from using ImageShack and somehow they blocked him so he couldn't view his or anyone else's images that were hosted on ImageShack and used on any forums. I would contact PhotoBucket to see if there are any problems.

This is not the case as she can access her account there on another computer. The update/s seems to have caused a change which won't undo even after restoring to a point before the updates. This inaccessibility i.e. the Red Xs appeared and becoming unable to connect to Photobucket immediately upon the usual restarting the system after installing the Updates.

Does she only use IE or has she tried another browser such as Opera or Firefox? If she is using IE what version?

She is using IE 6. She tried using the Netscape (delivery built-in), but that failed too. I don't know version that was, but I believe she updated it as she had never used it before. Her dial-up is extremely slow and there is no faster alternative available. To download and install a new browser is a quite a feat. I will suggest her that, may be she can do in the night.

Try cleaning out the Temporary Internet Files to see if it resolves the problem.

Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Delete files and Delete offline content. Then while still in Internet Options, click the Settings button under the Temporary Internet Files section and reset the Amount of disk space to use to 50-80MB. Be sure to keep your Temporary Internet Files cleaned out periodically.

If this doesn't work, check the following.

Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer

I made her do all that, yesterday and had also conferred the MS Knowledge Base. All that did not show any success either. The cache is a little larger and will ask her to reduce that.

I am about to ask her to run the SFC, perhaps that may help, but this nut seems to be a hard one.

WinXP, no SFC. Open My Computer > Right click on the hard drive and click Properties. Select the Tools tab then click the Check Now button. Check the box to Automatically fix file system errors then click Start. You will be prompted that it cannot run until rebooted. Click Yes and close everything then reboot the computer.

Hi,

Thought it might be interesting to report. The problem continues to prevail so that we may now have do the repair install which might just bring things back.

However, a very peculiar thing happened a few days back when on all of its own it started depicting the images it had been suppressing all the time as if nothing had happened. However, as my friend restarted the system a couple hours later, that small glimpse of normality was shattered. It returned to its stubborn state of not showing Photobucket etc.

May be this gives further clues...
