    Hello All,

I am having a problem connecting my windows XP professional to windows Server 2003. Everytime I attempt to connect the workstation to the server on the network I get the following error message:

A domain controller for the domain stone-and-stone could not be contacted.

Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly: The domain name is typed correctly.

I have both a wireless connection and a ethernet cable connection.

I can't add the network printer to the workstation either.

I hope that someone can help me solve this problem. Thankls in advance for any and all responses.

You will need to ensure that the Domain Controller has been setup correctly with the proper DNS entries (including Reverse Pointer entries)

Improper or inadequate DNS configuration is the primary reason for problems joining or connecting to an Active Directory domain.

If your server is not running DHCP to automatically assign addresses, you will need to set up the TCP/IP on your LAN connection on your Win XP computer. Check the DNS forward lookup zone on the server and select an unused IP address, then assign it to your computer under the "Use the following IP Address" blank in TCP/IP Properties. You should probably add your computer name to Active Directory on the server as well. Your server's IP should be input into the "Use the following DNS Server Addresses" blank. If your server IS using DHCP, then I won't be much help because I have been doing it the other way for too many years :) By no means am I an expert, but this is the way our server was set up.
