A new server will be installed at work and I was advised that MSN Messenger is one of the programs that is not authorized to go through our server.

I would like to know if there is any way I can connect to MSN Messenger by either by-passing the firewall or whatever.

Any suggestions, ideas or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hi Anne
I'm sure if you talked with your system administrator, they'd be more than willing to accomodate you. Otherwise, Miz's advice is still sound.

    Daizy,

I have talked to the IT administrators and they don't see a business useage for MSN Messenger which is true. It is purely a program for personal useage so since I can't justify it then they will not install. Although I don't abuse this, I'm sure that others have and they will not allow through the firewall for anyone.

Is there any other way around this??

    Thanks.

Short answer, no. The firewall will effectively block any and all traffic it's set up to block.

For all I know, there is a way around the firewall...if you're very, very good at hacking and cracking.

However, the question I guess only you can answer is, "Is having access to an instant messenger program worth the very real risk of losing my job when I'm caught?" because make no mistake about it...sooner or later, you will be caught.

    Kinda figured. :D
    Hence my reply. ;)
It would have sounded a titch snarky if I had said:
    A) You're on the wrong board if you think we'd divulge ways to get around a company firewall.
    B) Lecture....lecture.....yada....yada......it's WORK, their rules.....yada.....yada.... :)

Thanks for all your replies. I have lots to think about and yes, I know it's work and it's their rules BUT it shouldn't be prison neither. Most place of work now a days have long hours and no breaks - I honestly don't see any harm but enough said.
