I have a D-Link 655 router with three computers and a Pogo Plug connected via the wired ports. My primary computer uses Win 7 (64 bit). I also have a an XP system and a HTPC running Win 7 (64 bit). My primary system is on most of the time. If I boot up either one of the other two computer while the primary computer is running, they have trouble connecting to the LAN. Sometimes if I wait long enough before I log on, they will finally connect. Sometimes they will connect if I reboot several times. If I power down the primary system, there is not a problem as long as I only have one of the other two systems running. I was told by someone to disable the Computer Browser Service on the XP and HTPC systems. That seemed to help some, but it still happens at times. I don't seem to have a problem with my Dell Studio laptop using a WiFi connection. It also uses 64 bit Win 7. I haven't changed the service setting for the laptop. I haven't had this router very long, but I had the same problem with my old router.

Verify that Internet Connection Sharing ISN'T being used on any computers. Your network may be improperly setup (no need for ICS). If still have issues connecting use static IP addresses for the desktop comps.

TonyT, I'm not fluent in networking so please be gentle. I did a windows help on ICS to find out what that meant and checked the status of the two computers I had running at the time. As I understand it, ICS uses one computer as the host. That computer is connected to the net and the others are on a LAN via a second ehternet port and connect to the internet via the host. The motherboard on my primary computer does have two ethernet ports, but I'm only using one. Sharing is turned off on that computer. The HTPC only has one ethernet port and both computers are connected to the same router. The shared tab was not even present for the HTPC system. It seems that all the computers connected to the router should have the same priority. I haven't tried to switch router ports with the two computers. I may try that after I post this message.

I guess I was premature in my assessment that the other computers would boot if the primary system was not running. Last night I turned primary system off and I had to boot the HTPC four times before a connection was made. I have never had a problem connecting with my primary system.

The other suggestion was to use static IP address for the wired computers. How do I do that?

One does not need 2 network cards for ICS. The router or access point makes the connection to the host computer.

On all computers, rt click the network icon near clock and select "status ". Post the ip addresses and gateways of each.

I may have solved the problem. I found a more recent driver on Zotac's download site. Previously I had relied on the Device Manager to get the latest drivers. I'll have to wait to see if this is just a coincidence or if it really solved the problem. I've rebooted about a dozen times since I installed the new driver and it hasn't failed yet.
