I have a customer that has one of there PC's set-up to use the shift key to create special language characters in any of the windows applications. I need to know how this is done globally in windows.
    Example.
shift + 6 key, the ^ character is not printed but delayed until an e is typed which will create a character ê. I have looked all over but cannot find anything. I know how to do it in WORD. I would like to do it in Word,Excel,Winword,Notepad etc.

I hope this trick can also be made know to me and many other keyboard/document writers.

    many thanks.

    Charles.
Does this customer have a Macro application running all the time in the background ?
    For example, Keytext.
What you describe could be done with this or similar products,
irrespective of what input app you are running (Word,Excel etc)
    regards

Good question. I dont know. Where can I look to see what is running & how can I do it anyway.

In MS Word & Wordpad it is easy, just use ctrl+shift 6 & e the u get ê.

    Many thanks.

    Charles.
There is also a second method, I do write a number of letters and emails to Germany and there are special letters in German example. ß Ä - Ö and so forth they are not on a English-American Keyboard or ÷ ½ ¼ » º there are all types of letters and caracters there by using the Alt. key and the Numbers on your Numeric board.
    Num Lock must be on.
    Alt. + 0247 = ÷ Alt. + 174 = «
I am not sure where but I believe there is a full list available from Microsoft.
I did use the method that you mentioned at first but I found it too hard. You have to change your Keyboard Languish and from memory windows will ask for the windows install disk after that certain Letters on your board have different functions.
In my case it had the functions of the German Keyboard if I pressed the Y key i got a Z and so on, in the old DOS Manual there was a list of foreign Keyboard Layouts available.
hope this helped in some way

Thanks Hawk2. I do appreciate the effort. Mus custoemr is already using the ALt key method. In South africa we also use some special accented characters.
    Thanks.
