Click Start, 'Turn off computer'. it goes through its normal shut down until ' Windows is shutting down' Then it doesn't, it can go on for hours until I realize it is still on.
Have to go to 'Restart' and shut down from that, it does not shut down properly when it is downloading updates.
    OT Windows XP

Update on this problem went through the XP No-reformat,got to screen ten waited for screens eleven and twelve XP kept restarting (recycling). During the file copy sequence a number of files could not be copied had to press esc; to skip copy attempt or come out of set up. eventually screen came up with message, " STOP coooo221( bad image checksum) The image olesvr 32.dll is possibly corrupt, the header checksum does not match with computer checksum "

    Did you remove the CD?

    XP's No-Reformat, Nondestructive Total-Rebuild Option > Page 3

The owner cannot remember whether she removed the cd at the right time. she did remove the cd but I suspect it was later.
ll Is it possible to start it all again?
Would the skipping of copying some files, that were unable to be copied. affect the final result ?

THanks Doc, We are ok with the first Yes, but the second Yes brings up the questions, why do we have to 'skip' the copying of files that cannot be copied ? are these the files that are found to be corrupt ?. What would happen if we didn't 'skip' these files ?. On completion are these files still in the system or have they been erased ?
    Thanks,
    Spanner.

Try it again, but this time, when the system reboots in step 10, remove the disc. The computer will then be able to boot from the hard drive (instead of the disc) and be able to continue on with its installation routine.

Have we missed something in Set-up ?
Thinking of connecting Wireless USB Adapter, as a test to see if ethernet connection in PC is defective, whats our chances ?.
