Hi phill. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Have you tried shutting down all backround programs that are running in the system tray in the taskbar to avoid any conflicts with your games? Have you updated your graphics drivers to the latest version?

If it was a BIOS update that caused your problem then I don't know what else to suggest. :( Try contacting HP and asking them for help. I don't know if you could go back to the previous version of your computers BIOS or not. You could also try updating the drivers for your motherboard chipset and see if that solves your problem.
