We have a Dell Dimension C521 that the motherboard went out on. We took the harddrive out and bought a different new/used Dell Dimension C521 computer so we could retrieve the information from our old harddrive.

The new/used computer we bought has no Windows XP on it (we were told that we shouldn't have XP on it so our harddrive will not get confused...) We put our old harddrive into the new/used Dell. When the computer starts and the WIndows XP logo appears, the computer shuts itself off.

    Welcome to BBS,

You could first try unplugging the new computers hard drive so it can only boot from the old hard drive. This is assuming that you have both hard drives connected as it will be trying to boot from the empty hard drive.

Post back your observations and we will take it from there.

Can you give me some history on the new computer, did it come from a reputable dealer.
