Hello every one, my Toshiba satellite a15 laptop is over heating all the time. It shuts off this usually happens when I am running applications where my CPU is working hard like a virus scan etc . I am having a tuff time finding a replacement fan for my laptop, but I did find a notebook cooling system http://www.compusa.com/products/pro...e=309760&Pn=Executive_Notebook_Cooling_System
Would this stop the pc from over heating till I find another fan?

    Hello eyedea40,

I would say that it would help but have no experience with those cooling systems. One consideration is noise - how much does it make? Wait for the hardware experts to comment.

Another suggestion would be to prop the Laptop up so the bottom is not sitting flush against the desk surface allowing more air to circulate around the bottom, this is what I do whenever I use a Laptop.

    Regards - Charles

It hardly makes any noice... very quiet. I've used one for 2 weeks when I was at friends in the US. Next time I might take one back home :)

Do you think that one of the major fans has stopped completely or maybe not spinning as freely as it used to?

Check the air intakes and exhausts for (dust) blockages.

If the fan is "gummed up" and running slowly (and you can access it), try flooding the bearing with Contact Cleaner. My graphics card fan is limping along quite well after that treatment :) , although I have placed another fan next to it in case it stops again (a similar type of backup as the cooling system you found).

Virus scan? Does it only (mostly) involve intense harddrive activity? Just wondering if the harddrive is a major factor.

I agree with mattman. Virus scanning is hard disk intensive & not so much CPU intensive. Check your hard disk too (chkdsk /r - as first check).
