    Hello All,
I just received my new windows 7 computer from HP... 4 gigs of ram, Intel i-7 and the usual stuff they throw in from HP. After running the machine for only about an hour I noticed this: The problem I am having is I can't sleep the computer for more than 5 minutes. I have shut down all extraneous processes from 'task mgr' and 'starter'. I have disconnected all incoming and outgoing connections from 'Net Limiter pro3'. And still after I sleep the machine it wakes up after about 5 min. What works is to go to the net icon in the tray, click that, which brings up my wireless Internet connection, click the bar to bring up the disconnect option, click that in order to disconnect, and then the machine will sleep indefinitely. I have 5 other windows machines connected to the network (3 are windows7, 2 XP) and none exhibit this problem. The only software I have installed is 'Opera' and a few true and tried utilities that I have on all my other machines, and I have not browsed the net, so if it's a virus, it was shipped in the new computer from HP which I think is very unlikely. Any suggestions?

    thanks up front... :)

Are you using an email app and is it shut down before you try to sleep the pc?

I have neither used nor installed any e-mail apps. All I have done aside from the few utilities I mentioned above is to remove a bunch of bloatware...

Run this commend from a command prompt: powercfg /lastwake

This will report information about what woke your PC from sleep.

Thanks for this info. The description of the culprit is: "Broadcom High Performance WLAN Module" Any ideas about my next steps?

Actually I went to devicemanager, brought up the properties of the WLAN and disallowed that it should be able to wake up my computer. So thanks again Arie. Problem solved!
    :)
