OK THIS I know doodley about... (Admin...please move this to correct forum if this ain't it... )

My monster-in law is coming to live with us. She's bedridden after a severe fall and will be for some time. She's also addicted to (1) soap operas and (2) surfing the net!

I know that there's a way I can get the computer display to come up, using a televison screen as the monitor, but I never paid attention (SORRY, Sister Mary Johns!) whever I ran across this before. Wifey would like her 'computer-genius' (that's me, and stop laughing!!!) to fix it so that 'Maman" can use ye olde TV screen from her bed to go surfing and keep herself entertained on the confuser when the soaps have 'suds-sided' for the day.

I can't think of a more knowledgable bunch than this one to totally misdirect me in this quest, hence the post.

What do I need to do this and are there any sites on-line that can walk me through this endeavour?

We'll be using a P-III with WIN98SE and 512MB PC100 ram. At present it's using an on-board sound and on-board video native to the motherboard but has an AGP (2x) slot available as well as three open PCI slots.

Also, what about wireless keyboards and trackballs? I could also use info on these and how to masticat...I mean, integrate them into the setup.

We expect 'Maman" to be here for quite a little while and this should make her stay a lot more pleasant (for me!).

    TIA

    Vince

    Using TV as computer monitor

Hey Vince!! Condolences on the monster-in-law moving in!! Must be tough for her as well.:D

Here's a Microsoft site with some info on using a TV as a computer monitor that may give you some ideas on how to go about setting it up: TV Monitor Info

    Good Luck. :)

There are quite a few VGA to TV converters available. Here's one that was suggested on another BB, and it served the poster's needs quite well.

VGA to TV (S Video and NTSC) Converter

One thing to note is that the the image quality will NOT be the same on the TV as on a monitor. It will be fairly good, but even the best TVs have fewer "lines" of resolution than the average monitors.

As an alternative, there is MSNTV (used to be WebTV until Redmond glommed it up).

Easy and Affordable Internet Access -- on TV

Note: if using the Opera browser, be sure it IDs itself as IE5. The Mickey$oft page balks if it's not THEIR browser.

    Computer on TV

Thanks, Doc! (Also thanks for putting this in correct forum!)

I looked at the MSN service but at $99.00 for the hardware and then a minimum of $9.95/month (for five hours of service per month!!!) or 22.00 for unlimited access the other convertor seems a much better deal at 106.00 (appx). I already have a router and ADSL, so service wouldn't be a problem ( I think... correct me if I'm wrong here).

BUT... keep on sending them cards and letters and suggestions, kiddies.... I'm learning a lot more about WEB-TV and such than I ever wanted to!

    Thanks to all

    Vince
