Computer no longer performs file backups

I run Vista Home Premium SP 2

    PROBLEM:

I presently get the following error message upon trying the (always previously successful) file backup action via my WD USB external hard drive:

"The backup did not complete successfully.

An error occurred... The latest backup set cannot
be found. Make sure it is accessible and it has
not been deleted. Otherwise, create a new full
    backup. (0x8100000A) "

Due to some error on my part that the "latest backup set IS deleted or corrupted "

My problem now is I cannot find any link or access on my laptop or USB drive allowing me to create a new "Full Backup ". I know I had done so the first time I set up this USB drive to do such backups via Vista built-in "Backip and Restore ".

Can you help me now figure out a way to do another Full Backup now to get Backup working again?

Any help you could give me would be most appreciated.

Thank so much for your time and attention,

    Timothy

I don't use Windows backup. I don't think many other long term people here run it either.

Check the instructions for when you might need to do a complete restoration. They are somewhat complicated.

In fact, I dislike Vista's backup more than previous versions, it is not very flexible.

I tried searching for some information, try looking in Help and Support for "Methods of backing up your files ".

You don't give us a description of at which point you are stuck. Make sure there are no old backups where Windows would look for them, so that it "thinks" there are no old backups and the wizard needs to build a new "complete" backup, not just updating any new files.

If you are interested, start a separate thread (not related to this thread) and ask people how they do their backing up and their recommendations. You might get quite a varied response.

How do you want to recover from a loss and how easy is it? Would you want to recover one file or the complete system?

    Matt

FYI: Problem solved. I managed to get my problem solved over past weekend, though I thank you very much for your assistance.

Way I fixed problem is I added one extra file type to be backed up which finally gave me the link to perform NEW FULL BACKUP and everything has worked as it should since. Should have thought of that earlier but didn't.
