Computer Locks when attempting to upgrade Windows Media, and Music Match 10 [HJT Log]

    Computer Locks when attempting to upgrade Windows Media, and Music Match 10

    When ever I get a prompt to upgrade my Music Match from 9.0 to 10 everytings seems ok until "Copying Music Match Files" then my computer locks up. The same thing happens when I attempt to upgrade Windows Media. Does anyone have a solution? Thank You....Ken Pratt

    Thanks for the reply Pete. It locks up when trying to upgrade from MM's URL or from WWM Upgrade site. It works ok when installing or from a CD, but when I attempt to download a newer version from the site, it locks up??? Also if I attempt to uninstall MM9 from the Control Panel, It will not remove the program>>>Thanks again for your reply

    Can you download anything or is it just from those two sites?

    Does the download start at all or does it freeze part way through.

    Have you cleaned you computer of adware and malware? If not ....

    Download and immediately update Ad-Aware SE and Spybot through Quicklinks in my signature and delete all they find - use the immunise feature in Spybot for continued blocking of nasties and download and update SpywareBlaster 3.3 and 'enable all protection'.

    For continuous monitoring of adware Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta (do not be put off by the beta tag - it is Giant software - MS bought Giant this year) is recommended.

    If the problem remains download HijackThis through Quicklinks, save it to a folder, e.g C:\HJT - NOT to the desktop, run it and post the log here.

    Thanks Pete, yes I can download, but these two sites for upgrading is where the problem exists. The download freezes part way through from both sites.
    I have cleaned my computer regularly with Ad-Ware and others.
    Here is the log file from "Quicklinks." Thanks again....Ken Message was too long, so I will attempt to send the log in another message......

    The Logitech Desktop Messenger is mostly designed to send you update information for the logitech software, and could be uninstalled via Add/Remove programs.

    Unless you use the Viewpoint Media Player, I recommend uninstalling it also.

    Hjt - Computer Locks up when upgrading

    Thanks for the reply, I have disabled "Panda" when I attempted the upgrade, but to no avail.
    When I attempt to uninstall MM9 nothing occurs. It just blinks then no action or response.....Thanks..KenP
    I'll try the other suggestions, and I agree about the "Max ", I tried it for 7 days, and thought maybe it might cure my problem. It didn "t.....

    Thanks Dave, I followed your instructions. Nothing seemed to happen when I ran the regedit.exe/ c:\MM9.txt etc.
    I then attempted to open C:\MM9.txt- I did a search to find this file, it could not be found on my computer. However MM9 still shows on my Control Panel.

    Thanks again Dave, still nothing!!! with the new MM9 code. Should I get a dialog box when this runs?, because it doesn't seem like it is doing anything. Same thing when I attempt to remove MM9 from the Control Panel.
    One other note: when I attempt to upgrade to MM10, everything seems to work fine until it starts to "Copy MM Jukebox files, it starts this, then locks up...Thanks again for all your trouble.....Ken

    Grrr..where's it at :rolleyes: No, you won't get any kind of dialog box and you wouldn't notice anything happening. It creates a small text file, which happens very quickly. Lets go this route.

    Download "Registry Search Tool" (RegSrch.vbs) from here
    http://www.billsway.com/vbspage/
    start it and paste in MusicMatch, wait, hit ok. Then when wordpad opens, look for a string similar to this;

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{85D3CC30-8859-481A-9654-FD9B74310BEF}]
    "DisplayName "= "Musicmatch® Jukebox "

    Unfortunately, this method may produce quite a large log to look through. :rolleyes: We're looking for the key name that comes after the uninstall key.

    Give up on you? Of course not. ;) Two things......I've been away at the hospital with my wife and our new baby (and may be another couple of days), and I was waiting for the results of my last post. Did you run the RegSearch?

    Double click to run. Post the uninstall.txt file created in C:
