    Hi all.

My pc keeps crashing and giving me blue screens. There are many dump files with no message and other blue screens state things like kmixer.sys, win32k.sys, irql_not_less_or_equal, pfn_list_corrupt!!!!!!

I have read through forums and stuff and have already done the following.

    1. Run memtest 86+ v1.70 result ok
    2. run memtest 86 v3.3 result ok
    3. run a cpu test. result ok
    4. ran chkdsk. result okay
    5. run norton virus. result okay
    6. unpugged everything, USB, apart from keyboard, mouse and monitor. All stuff i have disconnected, like printer, modem etc i have uninstalled the programmes associated with these. still blue screen!
    7. checked psu. psu is inline with a ups. output seem all okay. although the asus probe software utility shows 5v 3.3v and v-core as all stable. 12v is fluctuating between 11.55 and 11.68? never a straight line on the graph if you monitor it!
    8. logged in as other users. still same problem.
    9. i have two 512k ram chips both the same. have marked one to identify. i have tried them swapped and one at a time and blue screen on all combinations.
    10. temperature is all good. usually around 40-43c. i have re-done heatsink compound to the chip just in case. still bs.
    11. i have rear fan and have also had the side cover off so don't think its overheating.

I'm still getting crashes and cant point it to anything. As a last resort because im so fed up i formatted my spare hard drive and installed xp on to it from scratch. To give it a brand new system to prove it must be drivers or something on the original drive as memory and cpu pass tests.

Whilst it was loading it crashed, blue screen, so this must be down to either the motherboard, ram, cpu or graphics card??????

Can anyone help me out please. Can we make sense of the dump files. should i post them. All help will be gratefully appreciated.

Feel free to post one or two dump data logs created using our Dump Data Collection Tool , but please be aware ....
You seem to have worked very thoroughly and comprehensively at trying to find the cause of the BSOD's, but there are a couple of points you have not covered ....

Chipset Drivers - uninstall/update and reinstall.
Did you load the chipset drivers?

You have taken the right steps in testing the RAM, but note .....
and you have followed the general advice re memory checking .....
To be sure you need to use another RAM chip - it is possible that both are faulty - the debugged dumps may indicate this. OTH the motherboard slots may be faulty.

chldsk is OK up to a point - for confirmation that the drive is OK you should run the manufacturer's disk diagnostic software .....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

    on both drives.

Temps are only as good as the sensors - check out the temps and voltages using SIW - leave it running a while as it records min, current and max values.

My best guess at this stage is a faulty mobo with RAM as second fiddle.

    hi pete

thanks for your remarks. I might be having a brain storm, possibly due to major headache of this, but what do you mean when you refur to chipset drivers. Do you mean updating the bios?

Also i have swapped the rams around etc.. etc.. I don't have any other ram to try at this point although i have found something new today which i have previously missed.

Due to lack of time when i was swapping the rams around in the first place. This was done after it crashed and the next day. Today i was checking the ram after it had crashed and found that the one in the 3rd slot was very warm as the other wasn't at all. Thus i left my pc off for a few hours, swapped the rams around, booted and hey presto this same slot, not ram, is very warm after about 10mins. As if its the only one doing all the work!

Anyway any suggestions. I'm guessing as you said mobo and/or ram which is probably damaged now!

No, not the BIOS - the chipset drivers are for the hard drive controllers, the North and Southbridge chips and other onboard motherboard chips. If your mobo has an NForce chipset you require the nVidia drivers, if Intel chipset the appropriate Intel drivers. The drivers Windows loads are generic - these drivers are required to optimise the functioning of the mobo.

Generally supplied on a CD with the mobo, but downloadable from the manufacturer's web site.

A warm memory module slot when all of the others remain cool is worrying and indicative I would think of a slot problem. If you leave the 3rd slot empty do the problems remain and does the slot still warm up?

slot 3 is the main slot for some reason. so i can only ever run with 1 ram in slot 3 or 2 rams in slot 3 and 1. I may just boot without any ram let it go into fault but powered on and see if the slot gets warm.

I have asked a Team Member for an opinion on the warm slot situation - may be a day or so as he is away from home at present.

Rockster2u has responded by PM despite being distinctly under the weather. His opinion, based on a wealth of experience points to a faulty motherboard .....

Thanks for all your comments and help.
This machine is 4 yrs old.
I left the machine a day and managed to run with one hd and cd drive and installed a fresh os xp prof. This seemed to run this time all okay. I checked the slots one cold and the problem one warm. Anyway xp runs now okay and i had thought maybe it had been corrupt drivers on the other harddrive os system until 5 hours later it started to do the same thing. As Rockster2u quoted its intermittent. Anyway i have left it on with nothing at all runnning on it and hey presto its crashed and the slot is very hot.

Thus looks like a new motherboard, processor and ram.

I mainly download torrents, surf and do home video editing usually with pinnacle studio.

Any recommendations on whats best for my needs? What websitres are the best to get the gear from?
ill probably search through posts and see what i can find out.

Thanks again for all your help.

As you are the opposite side of the world to me I cannot advise on Internet suppliers in Australia, but one of our Moderators may be able to as he is in Oz. I will PM him on this.

    This is my search
    http://au.search.yahoo.com/search;_...hardware+sunshine+coast&y=Search&fr=sfp&rd=r1

This looks like they have a good parts catalogue
    http://www.umart.com.au/

Visit the store if you can (if they have a shopfront). Talk to the tech/salesman (don't choose a busy time like say, Saturday morning).

For any supplier, find out their returns policy, for if you say, order the wrong part. Some might specify 7 days. Some might specify the package unopened (??!!). I have had some suppliers sell me parts and because the only way to test whether it is say, the m/b or controller card is to swap the parts, they will take it back and refund your money. That's a good supplier. ;)

If you don't mind interstate, this is my supplier:
    www.beecom.com.au
(friendly service, returns, warranty work, etc., never had a problem) A modest, but still broad range though and good prices.

These guys let me test a CPU on a motherboard and return it for a refund after 7 days
    www.arc.com.au

    Do your research :)

    Matt
[Just adding a note hoping Rockster picks up swiftly]
