Hello,I have had a problem with my home computer,it wouldn't boot to windows,I have re-formatted the drive, tried to install windows,2000,xp,98,me,and even 95.The computer will either on ME,get to where it detects hardware and just hangs,or when you install xp,it will boot to the first boot screen andlooks very dim, then hangs again. My processor will give me 1 beep when booting.I have swapped hard drive, ram, and still same problem, any ideas???It also boots fine through dos.

Sounds to me like a bad HDD. Do you have another disk to try?

Hi tater, welcome to the BBS,

First try installing without any added hardware... modems, soundcards, etc, just the basics.

Try reseating the RAM sticks or just using one if you have more than one.

Try borrowing another video card to use (reseat your current one first, just in case).

After that it looks like a motherboard problem.

    Matt
PS This is not a newly built system is it?
