I have searched the post and see many things that come close to what is happening to me but not exactly, I have an acer one net book that was playing Rhapsody then just froze and went to blue screen stating it was starting "physical dump" - I quickly turned it off manually and when it booted back up, it gives a quick blue screen (too fast to read) after the windows and acer logos then offer me the choices to start normally, safe mode, etc...none of which work except just to restart the cycle and bring be back to the choices page again. There is no Cd/DVD rom on it and pre-installed recovery only offers me to strip the system for a new install which I want to avoid if possible. If anyone can help me or direct me to a post that was is helpful, that would be great! :D

See if you can boot into safe mode and then follow these instructions.

    1. Press Start > type cmd in the search box and enter. At that c: prompt, type chkdsk c:/r and press enter.

2.Check disk will start to run but then it will say:

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Type Y for yes, and press enter. Then reboot the computer into normal mode. Chkdsk will start when Windows begins loading again. Let all 5 phases run and don't use or turn off the computer. (The chkdsk process may take an hour or more to finish.)

3.Chkdsk finds any corrupted files that are causing the problem and fixes them. Read the results of each phase as it finishes. During the final phase, it will notify you if it finds any corrupted files.

4.When the Check Disk is done, it will finish loading Windows.

    Let us know what happens.

Nope, can't boot into anything despite having the option to choose safe mode, normal, etc...no options take me to a boot of any kind. I'm offered the options but it just restarts itself no matter which option I choose.

Try this....shut the system down, use the power button if you need to. Start it up and tap repeatedly on the F8 key, this should take you to the "Windows advanced options menu ". Select "Disable automatic restart on system failure" This will at least allow you to see your blue screen...post back with the stop code, and we'll see what the next move will be.

Most probably bad RAM is causing the problem.

Download Auto installer for USB from Memtest86+ & check your RAM.

SeaShells....Thanks for the pic.....0xED usually points to a possibly defective hard drive...the best way to determine that is to swap out another hard drive if there is one available....on a good and lucky day, re-seating the bad drive might get you up and running long enough to back up your data, which you should do if you can....you will eventually need to replace the hard
drive...... if you have the Windows XP installation disc, it will be possible to run CHKDSK from the Recovery Console, and maybe determine the condition of the drive. This site will no doubt have plenty of how to's about using the recovery console........shout back if you have more questions...

If it helps, I had a similar problem today (not the same error message). I could not boot to any of the boot options or even the Windows CD. To run CHKDSK I took the hard disk drive out and connected it into a desktop computer and ran it from Windows on that computer.

That wasn't a clever thing to do. You should have let it complete the dump. Never switch off a PC like that, specially not when it is writing to the hard drive!

As mentioned, you'd best check out the drive first using the manufacturer's disk diagnostics:

    ExcelStore

    Fujitsu

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Toshiba

    Western Digital

Resolved...I used Bart's "PE Builder" on another PC with XP...it copied the XP files to a DVD and created a mock operating system to run on the netbook (I went out and got a external DVD reader) With the mock operating system running, I was able to pull up CMD and run the chkdsk from there, it took about an hour resolving issues but successfully booted back to normal start up avoiding a clean format of the drive which I was not thrilled about possibly having to do. Thank you for all the help!
