Computer freezes with black screen after initial Windows splash screen

Hi all,

For the past few days when I boot, it goes through the POST and I get the Windows splash screen. However, when the splash screen goes away the monitor stays dark and the computer freezes. I have to do a hard shut down, boot to safe mode, reboot and everything is OK. It doesn't happen every day; just occasionally.

I haven't made any changes, deleted anything (except cache, trash, cookies, etc.) nor installed anything.

 

Possibly a problem with a driver. Check the power connector to the motherboard. Could also be a power supply getting ready to **** out.
