Hi Im on a friends computer and everytime the start menu is Accessed the rest of the programs freeze and takes about an hour before the computer acts normal. I looked at the processes running in the background and I dont know which ones should be taken off and which should be left on. The OS he's running is Windows XP Pro. Can anyone help?

Type msconfig in the Run window and press enter. Check the Startups tab and see what's being called up when you boot. Try to trim (uncheck) any items you recognize as not being needed every session. The smaller the list, the better.

If that doesn't help, check for virus and spyware.
