I have an older Emachine 2260 that was given to me from a friend. Since I like to tinker with these kind of things I figured I would attempt to reformat it. I booted it up a few times and it worked like a charm. I was planning on installing BartPe on it. I have been pretty busy and have not looked at it again until today (A few weeks since last start up). Today when I attempted to start up the computer it would not show anything on the screen and it beeped about every three seconds (each beep was approx a second or two in length). It was continuous and it would not bootup. I am guessing this is some kind of hardware problem. I have done a few searches in the forum and did not find a post that particularly pertained to my situation. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks...

Hi Lebrute, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

The first thing that I would try would be to open up the computer and reseat all of the cable connections to the computer since one of the connections could have gotten lose. This includes the cables for the harddrive, the RAM modules and the graphics card. It wouldn't hurt to blow out any dust thats in the computer either.

I would pay particular attention to the graphics card since you mentioned that no display comes up on the screen. Try unplugging those devices and plugging them back in again to see if it makes a difference with the computer.

If no joy then its possible that the graphics card could have died somehow.

Going by the description of the beep tones it could indicate Ram problems.
Do as Evan Omo suggested, and if no joy remove ram modules and clean them using a eraser gently rubbing up and down the gold connector (not horizontal) then blow clean with compressed air. You can also test your ram if you have more than one module by swapping them out also if you happen to have some spare identical ram swap them out.
You can test your ram with mem test or the Microsoft ram test.
