I have Windows XP and two days ago, something happened, now it does not boot successfully. I havent changed or downloaded anything that i can think of. I have set my windows updates to automatic, so I don't know if something happened due to that. I get the following message

We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware of software change might have cause this." then at the bottom I have a couple of choices:
    start windows in safe mode
start windows in safe mode with networking
    last known good configuration
    and start windows normally

no matter which one I pick it just starts the process over, like a never ending cycle...

If someone can give me a step by step instruction on how I can get my computer to work, it would be a real life saver!! Thanks

Hi manohhm, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Since you have tried all of the various advanced boot options and you still can't boot into Windows then your only way of getting your system back up and running is to repair your Windows installation. Do you have a Windows XP CD that you can boot from?

The Windows XP CD that you have for your labtop is it an OEM XP installation disk? Is the Windows XP CD the same edition as the installation of XP thats installed on your desktop PC?

Ok but are both system running Windows XP Professional or Home Editions? Also do you know what service pack the desktop computer was running?
