Resolved Compressing video files

    Hope I'm in the correct forum.
    I receive mp4 video files over the email, they are on average 8 mb, lasting 3 minutes..
    I took a video on my mobile phone, 23 seconds time, 43 mb. I managed to compress it to an mp4 13 mb using an online video compressor. How come the longer ones can get down to 8 mb is my query?

    Maybe because different compressors compress at different rates.

    There are many factors involved with video which add to or reduce its weight in bytes:

    Frames per second: The human eye sees the environment smoothly at about 24-25 frames/sec. Many cameras record at 30 frames/sec. Video will look smooth at 20 frames/sec, but below that it gets choppy.

    Audio: anything from telephone quality to various surround sound formats add or reduce weight in bytes.

    Both video and audio can be in many different formats, e.g. mpeg, avi, acc, mp3, etc. These are then compressed in a container such as mp4 and others. Mp4 is not a video format, it is a container.
