My church is going to purchase a new computer to use primarily for showing videos and lyrics, projecting them onto screens in the front of the church. We will use software that relies upon MS Access files.

In addition to its uses, we also want to make sure that we won't have to replace this one in 2 years' time to run the next generation of software (if this is in fact possible).

I have been given one of these computers as an option (the HP), and would like to know if the Dell matches it, beats it, or falls far short. For the purposes of this comparison, please assume that all other things are equal.

    The HP has:
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 4200+
    2048MB PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM
Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE graphics card

    The Dell has:
    Pentium® D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB)
    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz (4x512M)
    256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory

Given the uses we will put it to, which one would be best--or are they both so good that its really a coin flip?

And while I'm at it--I noticed that Pentium is offering "dual-core technology." Does this mean that their chip is indeed dual-core, or simply that it can compete with the AMD counterpart, or is this somewhat deceptive marketing?

Both are actually overkill. They should handle want you want to do quite capably. The only thing I don't trust is the power supplies used in proprietary PCs. Check to see which one offers the better warranty.
