Compaq Notebook

    Compaq Presario 2170us laptop with Windows XP.
    Everytime I close the lid it causes the computer to crash and do a reboot. On reboot in may run Checkdisk. In power options of the control panel I only have turn off monitor checked and nothing else. Is this a hardware or software problem? Is there a way that I can fix this so it doesn't cause a reboot? Thanks

    I have a 2175 laptop Presario and I remember just recently accidentally coming across a screen with options on what to do when the cover is closed, for example turn off, among other things. Do you think you can find that screen? It might help you with your problem. BTW, don't you shut off your laptop from the start button before you close the lid?
