I have a compaq 4409, when I push the button on the front of the computer nothing happens, no noise of any kind. I replaced the power supply and nothing changed, Where do I look next? The original power supply had a burn mark on the board inside so I assumed that was the problem. Is the motherboard the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the BBS,
Looks like the bad power supply may have burnt out the mobo.

You could try resetting the CMOS. There should be a three pinned jumper near the CMOS battery (it's usually the only 3 pinned jumper on the board). Disconnect all power and change the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3 for 15 seconds, then back to 1-2. See the manual/User Guide for detailed instructions.

Slim chance that there is a problem with the power button. Look for the connector from the front panel labelled "PWR SW ", make a note of it's position, remove it and short the two pins momentarily with the tip of a screwdriver.

Very slim chance, replace the CMOS battery, another Compaq owner found it breathed life back into her machine.

Can't think of much else. The power connector to the motherboard is seated all the way?
Edit: ...4 pin power connector for the CPU?

    Luck
    Matt
