I have an older HP C200 camera using Belkin 8mb Compact Flash cards. One card has no issues when used for taking pictures and/or transfering them onto my PC with my Memorex UCF-200 card reader dongle (USB). The second one is giving me errors though.

    1. I can take pictures just fine with the second card with no error messages on the camera.
    2. I can preview the pictures just fine on the camera
    3. When I go to transfer the pictures (.jpg) off of the card via the dongle, I get the message in Windows XP that the data is corrupted. I've attempted a few different file recovery tools (Recover My Files, PC Inspector File Recovery, and R-Recovery). R-Recovery did not find the 13 pictures on the card at all. PC Inspector and RMF did find the pictures and did restore them onto my PC, but the pictures themselves were corrupted when I tried to open them.

I think they are still recoverable though, because the Camera can still preview the pictures on the view screen. I'm running out of ideas on how to retrieve the pictures. I do not have the proprietary HP usb to 9-pin Serial cable, which I can find on eBay, but I'm wondering if it may be a moot point to go and purchase it. It just doesn't make sense that the camera can see the pics, but windows cannot.

Any ideas? Thanks for the help :)

Can you borrow a HP USB cable. This includes asking around for folks who have a HP camera's and HP mp3 players.
Have you tried reading the card on a different computer?

Accepting the fact pictures on the card will be lost ...
Are their any extra folders / files put on card via computer. If yes delete them via the computer. With card in camera, choose delete all option to clear off any camera created files. Now choose camera option to "reformat" card. If all else fails, replace the card. Card memory is getting cheap. Look in camera's manually for which card size(s) work and buy the largest memory card which can be read by your camera .... hopefully larger than 8MB.

Yeah, I've tried the card on a few other comps. I'm also headed out to try a few other card readers this weekend, but my hope is failing. Unfortunately, with this model camera, the proprietary dongle didn't ship with the original box contents, and those few that I know with cameras have newer models.

So yeah, my hope is dwindling and I'm coming to terms with the higher probability of losing the data. Oh well, no big deal. Thanks for your help dude

If you need help finding maximum card size your camera can read, post make and model. Always a sale somewhere on cards.

Actually, my significant other and I have been talking about getting a new camera with better megapixels for some time now (This camera is a measly 1 megapixel). I may just for-go any further tinkering with this camera after this issue gets resolved.

Thanks again for your help Dennis :)

Always a way to spend money on new toys. Just one suggestions. Ignore "Digital Zoom ", meaningless value, it's all about the Optical Zoom. With no understanding of your budget, this is a attractive deal ...
Kodak 6 MP EasyShare Z650 Digital Camera w/ 10x Optical Zoom.
Don't forget memory card for above camera. These are just suggestions, enjoy the hunt.
