Hi Guys, the latest Comodo Firewall update has done it again! I got the splash screen on boot/startup after the update had installed. This happened last November when Ver:3.5 came out. I ran MS Utility Autoruns again and this time I deleted the entry CIS closed and rebooted the comp and it's OK. When I posted last November re this problem - the advice from Comodo Forum was to uncheck CIS. It was still unchecked so I thought I would Delete it completely this time. Cheers Neil. :D

Today my COMODO program notified me that an update was available so I downloaded and installed it. Everything went fine, although the download must have been a large one, considering how long it took. And it required a restart. BTW, this latest version is 3.8.65951.477.

LATER: While trying to get the same update for my wife's laptop, it said there were no new updates available. That didn't seem right, so I did a Google search for the latest version (see above) and it turned out to be the firewall program + other (anti-virus?) components. A malware suite, in other words, not just an update to the firewall program. Now I'm debating whether to delete that from my desktop or not.

Having just gone through some adventures with COMODO I can say from experience.

Download the latest version of CIS (there is one newer yet than the one in the subject line) but do not install it yet.
You first want to remove or uninstall the old version first.
    Then reboot.
Then you can install the latest version. During this install you will have an opportunity to uncheck the antivirus component if you only want to use the firewall. That is what I did.

Do not rely on the new installer to remove the older version. I did that on the first try and it couldn't remove enough to convince the new version that there was not still an older version still installed and it quit right there with me with nothing installed.

BOBBO & scout321x thanks for the input. Comodo seems to be working OK after the procedure I outlined in my Post. It seems to be out of line with other updates which can overwrite and remove older versions. Will take note of your detail scout and hope that any future Comodo updates will not leave the dreaded "splash screen ". Neil.
My version is the same as your one BOBBO (3.8.65951.477).

Firewalls have been my issue for the past six months.

First, Zone Alarm and AVG got into a snit and I ended up uninstalling Zone Alarm after years of satisfied use.

From the standpoint of security, Comodo worked fine but it brought its own brand of headaches. After repeated attempts to set Comodo up so I did not get 15-25 warnings everytime I installed a program or did an update, last night I uninstalled Comodo from my desktop.

Windows firewall is it at the moment while I look into other options.

I will be the first one to agree COMODO does require a lot more attention than ZoneAlarm. I do suspect that COMODO is a lot more discriminating about the activity on your PC.

It doesn't bother me as 1) I have had nasties get into my PC in the old 98SE days using ZoneAlarm with Norton (I eventually dumped both along with migrating to XP Pro) and 2) you can tell COMODO go into installation mode and that prevents many of the pop ups.

Plus being a retired IT type I am less bothered by them because to me they are an indication that my guards are working. To me re-installation of the OS (actually it is all the updates that are the problem on a very slow dialup connection) is even more of a PITA than the pop ups are.

Hi basketcase, If you open Comodo>RIGHT Click shield in Taskbar>Miscellaneous> Open Settings>General>Uncheck Display Balloons>OK out this should stop the POP up screens from showing. Neil.
