A COMODO Firewall upgrade to v.7.0.315 is available, but be careful. I ran the updater this morning (it's big -- 220 MB), and there are some add-ons to uncheck -- PrivDog and GeekBuddy as well as one letting the installation change the default search engine. After running the install and having to reboot twice, something wasn't quite right. The new version didn't appear in Control Panel > Programs and Features, just the older version I'd had for a long time (5.12.256). And the program for some reason appears in C:\Program Files rather than in C:\Program Files (x86) where most programs are. I suspected a problem, so I went to the COMODO Website and downloaded the upgrade again. This time the installation appeared to go OK, but then the real problems began. COMODO started asking permission to accept a couple different changes I'd never heard of. One involved plsapp.exe and the other one was PureLeads.Service. A Google search showed both being risky -- adware, as I recall. I tried to decline them, but I then found the PureLeads program listed in Control Panel's Program and Features. Deleting it took some time. Finally, when everything seemed sorted out, I went to notify all you good people about the upgrade and couldn't even get my home page to load. Numerous checks and tests, including phoning my ISP, proved fruitless and I wound up doing a system restore back to 3/28. That got me back on-line, at least.

My advice would be to do a system restore before updating COMODO, then download the upgrade from their Website, not from your COMODO program. I don't know if deleting your older version first would help. That would probably result in the new version having to learn all the safe programs, etc., all over again.

I might add that before I checked COMODO this morning, I ran a full NAV scan and a Malwarebytes scan and both showed no problems.

I'm looking forward to seeing others' experiences, suggestions and advice on any of that.

After reading other users reactions with GeekBuddy and the lack of solutions to many problems associated with it, plus you need to pay for the GeekBuddy service, I would steer clear of COMODO. COMODO's forums seems lacking when it comes to knowledgeable help when dealing with this issue.

Comodo update fails, leaves system unusable.

This Comodo update also hosed my XP64 system. Had to restore from my nightly backup.

In my case, two separate tries resulted in two different problems. First time it stopped AnyDVD6 from loading and Comodo itself would also not load. Second time TrueImage 2013 would no longer run and Comodo did load but wouldn't actually work.

For both installations, the installer forced windows to ask which user should run the executable, which was many times because there were many separate executables involved.

I used to swear by the Comodo browser but recently aborted a download after reading the Terms and Conditions which quite frankly rather frightened me.

This is part of the reason why I just use both the Windows Firewall and a hardware firewall behind a router. Your computers can still be protected and you don't need to deal with yet another 3rd party security program that you need to update and maintain.

I've never used COMODO Firewall so I can't say how much better protected you would be compared to using the regular Windows Firewall. Having to deal with all this hassle of getting the freaking program to work IMO is just another excuse to not use this application in the first place. I would just move on to another product until the COMODO developers get their program working properly.
