communicator 4.77 MAJOR problem please help :)

    hello,
    win95B and win98SE communicator 4.77 (on all of them each was downLoaded from a different source)
    since last night, while trying to dLoad mail receive a netscape message: "An error occurred while saving mail messages" (on all my NON-NETWORKED pcs)
    still occurred this am and then lead to blue screens (exceptions 0E involving vxd ifsmgr(01), pppmac(01) and later wsock(01) and pppmac(01)
    nb: the wsock occurred after removong and reInstalling communications in win setUp
    no more blue screens yet

    my isp says it's due to nn 4.77 and to get 4.8 (which i hear is buggy) plus i canNOT understand WHY it would be occurring on ALL the pcs.????

    i tried dLoading w/ 3.04 same error.
    PLEASE advise -- i really think it's due to the isp but perhaps you experts have heard of this and can advise?

    I found some tips for you:

    It's likely that the index file for your Inbox in netscape has become corrupted. Exit Netscape, then look for a file called "inbox.snm" and rename it to something like "inbox.old." You may want to delete "inbox ", too (MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP THIS FOLDER, IF YOU HAVE ANY NEW MESSAGES THERE). Restart Netscape, and the problem should be resolved.

    If not, try checking your mail at
    http://www.e-mailanywhere.com/, and see if any of your mail messages look "funny," for example, the sender doesn't show up. I've found that with Netscape 4.5, mail messages generated by the Magistr virus will cause this error.

    Check the file properties of the INBOX and make sure that read-only is not selected.

    You might have a corrupt piece of mail sitting on the server. Everytime it tries to download it, it crashes and so it can't delete the mail either. What you need to do then is use some other mail program to delete the offending mail from server.

    Judging from your "...WHY it would be occurring on ALL the pcs... ", I would start with my last tip.

    Thanks for the reply!
    it seems to have been due to a corrupt message on the server (from a known *benign* source (not even spam etc)) which i deleted (with web mail)
    and it appears solved
    i have no idea why this caused the blue screens and error messages???
