    win95B nn 4.77
2 days ago installed dun1.3 and winsock patches (b/c of blue screens involvong ifsmgr(#) and pppmac(#)(0e's at the vxds)
since then communicator is not downloading sites the reading file...done or a perCent of kbs message is in the lower left and the scroller goes back and forth (no error) and i think this might go on forever..
hitting reload wakes it up sort of... not always.
    1. can anyone advise?
    2. (i have ie 4.x on same system and it is accessing sites (plus have 4.77 on other system and it is not having problems))
    3. microsoft has a y2k patches for these 2 files however 1 of the requirements is the y2k patch which i don't think i reInstalled on this and don't know
    a) how to find out if it's on the pc
    b) where to download it if it's not on the pc
    c) the patches are for date problems which this pc does not have.
thank you in advance for any and all advice!

    Hi tanya,

    All Windows 95 Updates
    Windows 95 Critical Updates

    Y2K DUN 1.3/WS2 Update
Windows 95 Corporate Year 2000 Companion Update

Do a "Find" for: Qfecheck.exe and run the file (double click)

This will list your all your Registered Updates
The Y2K update will be listed as:
    Y2k.W95.Dun Windows 95 DUN 1.3/WS2 Update

    For your Netscape hang:
Locate the HOSTS file, the one without an extension (not HOSTS.SAM) in the C:\WINDOWS directory and rename it HOSTS.BAK .. Close Communicator and try again.

If you use a third party download program such as GetRight, etc., disable the program.

    Close Communicator
    CTRL+ALT+DEL
Look in the list for "netscape.exe" and if found then "End Task" on it.
    Restart Communicator and try again.

    Check this setting:
Click EDIT | PREFERENCES | ADVANCED | PROXIES
Select: Direct Connection to the Internet

If none of the above help, then create a new Profile.

    hello Ramona,
thank you very much for replying!
(i did not have the y2k patch -- thanks)

there is no hosts file (on the pc) aside from the hosts.sam

    no 3rd party dLoad programs

and the preferences were as you wrote (direct connection...)

a new profile did the same thing

i'll instal the y2k patch and the dun1.3 and winsock patches tomorrow and see whether they help
    thanks again
    sincerely
    Tanya
