I get an error message saying that my port is not available and that HotSync (for my Palm) will notify me when it is available. I think I used to have my ZIP installed here. How do I fix this (it says it is working fine..just not available). Do I need to delete the drivers already there and start over?
    Many thanx....LuckyFish

    Hi Luckyfish!

I saw Your post when it arrived but have no experience of Palm's but only of iPaq's.

The COMM port can be locked on iPaq's too and when this happens I press the reset button, through a small hole with the tip of a pen or something.

Is there a reset button on Palm's?
    I would guess there is!

    HTH,
    Christer

Posting a query on the Board does not guarantee you a reply as I am sure you know - your critical comment is neither warranted nor helpful. The operation of the Board relies on members willing to share their experience with others. If your problem lies outside that experience then you will not get a response.

Hi, Christer. Thank you for your reply. I was talking about my Comm 1 port on my OS. I THINK that is 'what is not available.' I'll try the reset button...yes I have one. I just thought the problem was my OS. Like I said, I used to have a zip connected, and am wondering if that is taking up the port and what I should do (like delete something). I really appreciate your advice..I'll let you know if hitting reset does anything.

PeteC: you totally mistook my question. I was asking if I was on the wrong board (hardware), or should I be somewhere else (like misc or something). BBS has been great for all of my computer questions...I just wasn't sure I was in the right 'forum'. Because I hadn't heard anything back, I thought maybe this wasn't a 'hardware' question. I'm sorry if I offended you; it was not meant that way at all.

    Luckyfish,
    You´re welcome!

I would think that if a COMM-port is in use and therefore blocked for other applications, it should be released when the computer is rebooted.

I use a DOS-based program that require access to a COMM-port but WinME refused to grant the program access. It takes a registry edit to do it and that edit has to be done on each and every occasion.

On earlier OS's (Win95/98) the programs are granted access but I don´t know about Win2K/XP.

    Which OS are You on?

    Luckyfish,

on a second thought, the problems with the COMM-port that I experinced with a DOS-based program shouldn´t have any bearing on Your problem. I believe that HotSync, like Active Sync, is a Windows CE based program, right?

    Sorry for any confusion!

    The "reset button" could, though.

Thanks, Christer....Listen...don't worry about any confusion YOU "RE causing...I'm totally confused on my own! lol! Let me ask you this. How do I 'clear' my Comm 1 port on my OS? I guess I need to make sure that nothing important is using this port (like keyboard, mouse, etc) lol. Please tell me the basics for clearing the port and installing the correct driver. Thanks for all of your help! I can tell you are really trying to help a real dummy. Can you believe I've purchased this Palm?! lol
