Wired (desktop) internet connectivity is fine after reboot or startup in windows 7. However, after such a session, when I am coming out of hibernation, the tray icon shows connectivity to be fine, but the browser, email client & others say NO! Does anyone have any ideas as to the solution. I have tried 2 things: unhooking the Ethernet adapter from powering down during sleep/hibernation: didn't work. Another thing I have tried is after resuming from hibernation, I have tried successive disabling then re-enabling the connection. Didn't help either. One odd thing: going to Network & Sharing Center, then click on the Local Area Connection to get the Status, it does show a few packets sent & received & a small amount of activity! Another oddity: if either I shut down or restart from one of these disconnected sessions, after the process is committed, I see a tray icon that depends upon the internet showing some normal activity, while before it just says "connecting ", which means it ISN'T CONNECTED!

Device Manager -> Ethernet adapter->properties->power management->disable the "Allow computer to turn off this device "

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I have tried that remedy already, but it did not work!

Pwr Mgmt of ethernet and wireless adapters is dependent upon the adapter driver. Not all drivers have support for the operating system's pwr mgmt features. Try updating to the latest driver via the adapter manufacturer's site or do away with hibernation completely. Hibernation has been buggy in all operating systems and never works 100% with all hardware. Common solution is to use advanced/custom pwr mgmt settings & just turn off monitor & drive after X minutes and set hibernate to "never ".
