sounds like you have an entry in the registry.

each time you restart your workstation, no matter what you saved prior to restart, some other website is shown.

At the top of this forum is two Pinned forum threads. These threads deal with Virus / Torjans / and hacks. What it sounds like you have is a hack. Basically, you went to some website in the past that automatically changed your homepage and saved that website to some attribute in the registry. Until you remove this fom the registry, it's not going away...at a minimum.

Review the above links for additional troubleshooting. Specifically Ad-ware and hijackthis are the niformation you should review.

    magicsolo,

It sounds like your Home Page has been Hijacked.

Download Ad-aware and Spybot through Quicklinks in my signature and immediately update both. Configure Ad-aware for a full Scan as outlined below ....

    How to Perform a "˜Full Scan’ with Ad-aware 6 build 181

In Ad-aware click the Gear to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red x

    Under the Scanning Button "¦.

    Scan within archives
Under Memory and Registry, check EVERYTHING
In Check Drives and Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

    Under the Advanced Button "¦.

Check all under Log detail level

    Under the Tweak Buttons "¦.

Some of these may not be an option depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

    In Scanning Engine "¦.

    Unload recognised processes during scanning
Include info about ignored objects in log file, if detected in scan
Include basic Ad-aware settings in log file
Include additional Ad-aware settings in log file
Include used command line parameters in log file

    In Cleaning Engine "¦.

XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion
Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings, When you would like to perform a "˜Full Scan’, switch the scan mode from SmartScan to Custom.

Run Ad-aware and Spybot - delete all Ad-aware finds ans all items in red that Spybot finds (green items are usage tracks, deletion optional.

Then download HijackThis, save it to a folder on your hard drive, unzip it and run it, Save the log file and copy and paste it here. Fix nothing - wait for instructions from those familiar with analysing these logs

    And finally ....

Please do not post in Bold on the Board

Glad to hear your problem is solved - good idea to run Ad-aware and Spybot regularly.

Give yourself another level of permanent protection - in Spybot click on the imminize icon and again on the imunize green + icon.
