    com orts and xp

Have been trying (unsuccessfully) to install updated drivers to use Hot Synch via USB ports with a Palm M105.

Originally, when trying the install, it would list COM1 and COM3 as available; it would variously install the USB adapter on COM1, 2, 4 or 5. Now, having uninstalled and reinstalled several times, COM1 and COM3 are listed as "unavailable ".

Yet when I go into device manager, only COM1 is listed as a communications port; when I then go into Properties/Port Settings/Advanced, and go to the drop down menu, COM1, 2, 3 and 4 are listed as in use. I've completely uninstalled the palm software, but still have all these ports listed as in use

How do I figure out what is actually using these COM ports? I went into devices by connection, but only COM1 is listed.

Com ports are NOT USB ports.
Enter the system BIOS, and disable both com ports, you're not using them anyhow.
USB ports will be in device mangler, under USB devices.
