I'm not sure where to ask this, but I have a problem.

I'm trying to run a game and getting a serious problem with the pictures. I asked people and they tell me that to fix the problem (it looks really glitchy and purple and has two of the same picture) I should switch my desktop to 24-bit color.

I checked what my color was at and it was 32-bit (or something close to that) but there was no option to switch it to 24-bit. The only other option was 16-bit. I figured if I was supposed to go down in quality, I might as well try 16-bit and it still came out glitchy and messed up.

I have two questions. The first is if it is logical that 32 and 16 both come out glitchy but 24 would work perfectly. The second and more important question is if there is anyway possible that I can get my desktop to 24-bit color. I mean if my graphics card supports 32 then why couldn't I use 24, right? Or is this completely impossible for me?

Oh, and I have Windows XP. If that matters.

I wouldn't think colour "quality" would have any effect.

You might have success reducing the resolution. You should be able to change the resolution in the game, but if you cannot read the menus to make a selection, you will need to try a lower resolution in Windows before you open the game.

Have you checked the System Requirements of the game? Is your computer powerful enough to run it? There is usually a Readme file on the CD that gives you tips on how to run certain graphics adapters.

You will have to let us know what sort of game it is.

If it is a graphics intensive game, you may need to upgrade/update your chipset drivers, the graphics drivers and I would do the audio drivers as well.

Let us know a few details.

Well, other people have had this problem and solved it by switching to 24-bit color. There was a discussion on it in a forum, so I assume it is the right way to go.

I'm not really asking for other solutions, though. I mainly just want to know if there is a way to switch to 24-bit color even though it isn't there. I just provided the info with the game as backup information.

That is why I original named this topic "Color" and not the changed "Color in game ". This isn't about the game, it's about asking how I can get 24-bit color desktop.

Err, no, if I go into a Windows XP system with an nVidia graphics adapter, if I right click on the desktop and choose NVIDIA Display, my colour quality selections are 32 bit (highest), 16 bit (medium) or 8 bit (lowest).

You will need to supply specific details about your system and your graphics adapter. Does the problem only happen in the game? That is what seems to happen.

We can't compete with invisible "gurus ". Ask them why.

    I wasn't asking you to.

I wish I never mentioned the word "game" at all. That is not the focus here. I just wanted to know if I could get myself on 24-bit color. So there is no way at all to do this? Even if I can go past it?

MSD, if I may call you that? :)

We still don't have any details about your system or when, exactly, the problem happens.

Colour, in my opinion, is only a "setting ". It will not influence having things like getting dual images on the screen.

You probably have wrong drivers installed, although I wonder if you are running a game that is outside it's System Requirements.

You need to answer some questions (for example, supply system specs and tell us when you see the problem happens).
