I have windows 98 (second edition) and when I did a diagnostic startup to find out why I can't shutdown, the color has stayed on 16 and the pixels on 640x480, also I always get the start up menu when booting up. Would the answer be the same as for the Pumpkin queen, or is this caused by different means.

    Hi Susanna,
If you are getting a menu of startup options, choose the first one, and it should restore your settings. If not, then right-click on the desktop (but not an icon) and select Properties, then click on the Display Settings Tab (I can't remeber exactly what it's called, but it'll be the one right at the end). Try and adjust the settings from there. If you can't then you have the same probelm as PQ.
As for disbaling the menu, open the start menu, and select "Run ". Then type "msconfig.exe ", and click on the startup tab. Click on the "Advanced" button, and there should be an option saying something along the lines of "Always show startup menu" (again, I'm not 100% on the wroding, as I don't have a W98 PC in front of me). Untick this option, and it should stop the menu from running at startup.
