cmuda.sys refuses to load

I have a V333U m/board with built-in C-Media sound card, which used to run on Win98SE without problems. After I upgraded to Win2K, the sound card isn't recognised. When I try to reinstall it, it goes through all the process, but then stops with "Cannot load cmuda.sys ". Does anyone know whether there is a different version of this driver for Win2K? I've downloaded all the versions I could find anywhere on the net, which turned out to be only two: 5.12.1.39 and 5.12.1.20, but the PC won't accept/load either.

UPDATE: Nope, same old problem. Refuses to load cmuda.sys. And I now notice the wording "invalid handle" which I hadn't spotted before. Same version, BTW: 5.12.1.39.

 

Great site! Thanks for the tip. I've tried two driver packs from them, but still won't install. The errormessages I get (translated back from the Italian system I'm using, so may not be word for word what you'd expect) are: "Unable to load the driver C-Media WDM Audio Device. Driver file missing. Install the driver again or ask your system administrator." Then, on closing, "Error during installation of the device. Handle invalid. "
I'll keep scanning Driverguide in case I find a pack the machine will accept. But a search on "cmuda.sys" on Google throws up thousands of threads in all languages: looks like it's quite a common problem...
