When I try to access the cmd prompt I get an error message; C:\WINNT\system32\cmd.com The NTVDM cpu has encountered an illegal instruction. My only option is to close or ignore, both close. I have scanned for a virus, none found. Any help would be appreciated.

    Does rebooting help?

What happens if you try command.com insstead of CMD?

tried using, command.com. That opened up the window and appeared that it was going to work, typed in ping, and it came up with a lot of different letters and symbols, pc made some beeping noise and it gave the same error message.
