In Registry when you go to HK_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
    or
    HK_Classes_Root\CLSID (for example)
You get the very long list of CLSID's representing programs.
Does anyone know how to quickly match a program to a CLSID without running Edit|Find, opening each CLSID key, running a Google search on each CLSID, or some other long-winded method?
Most of the time I know the program's name and want to find the CLSID.

    Hi Jim,
While this topic is beyond me, I did have a memory flash/nibble that I had read about it, with interest, on the board before. I was surprised to find that you had started that topic. Perhaps you've forgotten it or I'm being an idiot and can't recognize that your asking for something completely different. Never the less here's the link to that past post. Perhaps the sublinks will lead to what you seek:

I don't know if this is what your seeking or not but I thought I'd offer it to you anyway just in case you forgot or lost the information or reference links within it.

goddez1--Yes, you caught me. But I do not feel that the earlier thread reached any conclusion. So I still have no easy way to find the CLSID for an installed program. I was hoping some method might have been developed in the last year+.
    TonyT--Thanks.
    1) I downloaded Cowhere. But when I used it to try to find the CLSID for an installed program, such as Irfanview, and entered "Irfanview" at the Command prompt, the screen read as follows
    C:\Program Files\Cowhere\cowhere\Release>cowhere irfanview
"irfanview" doesn't appear to be a valid CLSID"
Not sure whether that means the program only goes in the direction of translating CLSID to Program or whether I am doing something wrong.
    2) I also must confess to not understanding everything that is said in the first and third links you provided. Perhaps their bias is for program writers who want to create a CLSID for their program rather than translate a CLSID?
    3) I was aware of the Sysinfo.org page. It seems to do a hit or miss job of converting program names into CSLID's. Irfanview (or i_view32) is not recognized at all, and while "Internet Explorer" does produce four hits, none are iexplore.exe.
