I did a CHKDSK and it found and fixed errors on my HDD. Now Windows warns imminent failure after showing the SMART warning on boot.

I am about to replace the drive with an SSD plus add a 2nd drive for data and wonder, can I just clone the C partition on the old drive to the new SSD or will I be better off reinstalling Windows.

If reinstalling, can I install Win 10 without first reinstalling Win 7? I did the upgrade a month ago and have the digital activation but I am thinking that replacing the drive and then adding a 2nd one for data wont activate due to the changes.

    Thanks,

Thank,I might have not been clear enough on my post. .I don't have an issue with migrating from one drive to the new one, it is whether I might run into an issue with the fact that the Windows errors might complicate the process.

No one can predict when or if a hardware failure will impact your migration. The fact chkdsk was able to fix the errors it found is good, but typically, when errors start to appear, they will continue until the drive stops working. So the longer you wait, the greater your chances of problems.

I think I will start from scratch and see if Win 10 will activate. If not, it will be a .day
    Thanks for the insight
