I don't know whether this is the proper topic for this question but here goes...

I am using BitDefender on a Windows XP sp2 system running an AMDx2 4400 on an Asus MB with 2 gig of OCZ ram.

When I do a system scan I hear a series of three or four clicks coming from my computer and these repeat themselves about three or four times during the scanning of the registry. After the registry has been scanned, no more clicks. My system checks out fine with no spyware, no viruses and no rootkits.

My system seems to be running fine otherwise and I have had no BSOD's or even unexpected system disk scans (chkdsk).

I seem to remember that as I boot up in the morning I will hear one click similar in tone and duration to the clicks I hear when scanning for malicious hardware.

My question...I've never heard of this nor heard it on previous computer systems (I've never used BitDefender before)...does anybody know what these clicks mean?

    Thank you...

    Hello DWFII,

To eliminate that this is a hardware (drive) problem, go to the HD's manufacturer's site and obtain their disk diagnostic software and run.

This is normal, Next time check your floppy drive to see if it lights up when
you are doing Bitdefender scanning.. What version are you using ?
I am using v.10 std.... When Bitdefender scans my PC ,it is just checking certain parts of the computer. It will check your CD-rom / floopy drive and hard drive.. All these checks will make a little noise.
