    I just installed XP pro on this 2 year old pc, when I click to shut down it restarts.
    What is causing this?

    Do you run Easy CD Creator? It often causes this problem. They have a patch/fix but lots of folks on here have reported it didn't fix things.

    Best suggestion for XP seems to be get rid of Easy CD Creator and use Nero.

    Did you check your power management settings in the Control Panel? Also may want to turn off Auto-restart in System>Advanced>Startup & Recovery>settings

    I unchecked auto restart.
    now after I click to shut down, it seems to shut down normal, says saving your settings, then windows is shutting down, then it stops at a blue screen saying;

    a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    goes on to say check hardware or software, etc.

    tech info;
    **STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00002854, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80530335)

    I got a blue screen earlier after I pluged in the wireless network adapter to the USB and went online, but it restarted so fast I couldn't read it.
    When it started back scan disk said it fixed it and it has not done it again.

    I removed the USB network adapter and uninstalled the software that came with it, tried to shut down and it did the same thing.

    Right now all I have in it is a vid card, sound card and modem and all drivers were auto installed by XP.

    But, the 1st sound card (ASound) I had in there was not compatable with XP, it said there was a problem with driver when I tried to install it, so I removed it and stuck in a sound blaster pci.

    I dont see anything from the ASound card in here now, or in safe mode. How can I find it?

    If I Un-check "use APM" I do not get the blue screen anymore, but I get the screen that says "it's now safe to turn off your computer ".

    You can take a look at this. Don't know how tech minded you are so it may not be much help but it points to possible bios problems. I'd try updating all my drivers and if you still have problems, maybe a bios update is needed.

    How to Troubleshoot STOP Error Messages After Enabling Advanced Power Management

    Oh, I forgot to add that this article is for win 2000 but I would guess things would be pretty much the same for XP. Can't say for sure though. Anybody else got any ideas?
