When I click a Folder (any folder) I get the Search window, with the Folder showing in the Look in pane. This is a pain. I can right click and choose Open and it opens. The only things I can think of that I have done is run Spybot, Adaware, Defragment, and turn off System Restore. All in Safe Mode. Otherwise Surfing the web, reading the news, checking BBS, and a couple of crossword puzzles. I need a way to get back the way it was. All help appreciated.

    Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>File Types>Scroll down to "Folders ". Click advanced>Click on open and "set Default "

    Does that work?

FYI, that's generally caused by the user going to "My Computer" or "Explorer" > Tools > Folder Options > File Types > File Folder > Advanced > and clicking OK instead of Cancel. Even though you think you have made no change, clicking OK changes how the folders open. It's one of Windows little bugs. Always click cancel if you want to leave things as they are.

One way to fix that is to use the script provided by Doug Knox:

    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_folder_open.htm

You can also do it manually but why would you want to? :)

OR... If you really like to suffer, you could try fixing it the MS way...

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q321186

I'm sure their method work too but I lost interest before getting to the punch line. :D

Do not remember doing anything in there, but with me, who knows. Fixed it with the Doug Knox script. Glad that is done. Thanks a lot.
