If you're referring to the entries in Start>All Programs>Startup, you don't have to use msconfig...just right click on them in the start menu and select "delete" from the popup menu.

If you're asking how to disable things in msconfig's list on the Startup tab, just left click the box next to the item you want to disable to uncheck the box.

If it's specific programs you want to stop from loading on startup, first try finding a way to disable that from within the programs themselves. If the program offers that options, it's usually found in a program's preferences or options.
