Alright quick story, I live with my girlfriend, it's getting to the point where I'm about to ask her a serious question. I'm shopping for jewelry, have browsed for some stuff online, and now can't get the sites that I've visited to disappear from my cache. I've gotten the sites out of my internet history, but i can't figure out how to get them to leave my cache (i see them when i do a Google desktop search)

The girlfriend is the nosy type and I'd really prefer to not spoil my surprise by having her realize that I've been poking around jewelry sites. Anybody know how I can clear my cache?

    Thanks.

Right click the Internet Explorer Icon (big blue E) and select properties. Then click on "Clear History." That'll clear your run and search histories which may not be where you are at risk but good to know anyway.

Then to clear the Google History:

    Do this

    Good luck and best wishes.

Still no good... I need to clear the cache it's not a normal Google search that shows it to me, it's Google Desktop Search where I can see old sites that have been visited. I have a feeling that the file is hidden in my Windows folder somewhere, but i have no idea where or how to access it.

Step 1. Close GDS by clicking the tray icon and choose exit.

    Step 2. Open the folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\application data\Google\Google Desktop\some alphanumeric code (12 digits)

You will see huge files with random extensions like ht1 cf1 wh. Delete all files in this folder except the files that start with sidebar_

Step 3. Restart Google Desktop Search.

Actually I did a search, found the Google folder, and clicked on the 12 digit code folder, but it was empty... is it possible that everything in their could be hidden? I don't get it...

    Easy way to find out:

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View >

Check the box labeled "Show hidden files and folders "

Uncheck the boxes labeled "Hide file extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operation system files "

    OK out of there.

Take a new look at that folder now.

You will always have the folder at:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner (or your id)\Local Settings\Application Data

Doesn't ATF Cleaner or Ccleaner do this?

So much trouble. Just pop the question before she gets nosy and starts poking around. ;)

    Problem solved.

slim77, :D I think you may find out that keeping secrets from her may lead to worse problems than the one you have posted. :D

Women have a way of finding out things and are very good at pretending to be surprised when they knew it all along. Your first mistake will be when you think you can fool them. :D

Yeah, but that may be putting a sledge hammer in the hands of a newbie and I was trying to keep things safe and simple.

    Clearing Google History

    Google makes it difficult
They never realized that it was an issue until people started using a hole in the google toolbar to clear the history.
If you have the toolbar it has a function to clear the google search ( but only in the toolbar)
If you are really desperate go to i.e > tools > internet options > auto complete > clear forms

BE CAREFULL : clearing the forms will clear all your forms
passwords are a diffirent area luckily

Yeah visionof, that's what I suggested in my first post with the Do This link.

I don't have the Google Toolbar installed so thanks for adding their built-in bail-out as an option.
